Gold Star Distribution Recalls Multiple Pet Products: Food, Treats, Litter & More

Recall Overview:

Products: A broad range of pet products, including cat food, dog food, dog treats, and cat litter from various well-known brands such as 9 Lives, Purina, Fancy Feast, Friskies, Meow Mix, and Tidy Cat litter.

Issue: Products were stored in unsanitary conditions — with evidence of rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in the storage facility — posing a risk of Salmonella and other contamination.

Affected Lots: Multiple SKUs listed in the official recall list include:

• 9 Lives Cat Food (Indoor Complete, Daily Essentials)
• Purina Dog Chow & Puppy Chow
• Dog Treat Snack Shack P.B. Bone & Cheese & Bacon Bone
• Fancy Feast & Friskies varieties
• Meow Mix bags
• Tidy Cat Litter red and blue varieties (4×10 lb / 3×6 lb)

Distribution: Recalled products were distributed to retailers in Minnesota, Indiana, and North Dakota.

Health Risks:

• Pets: Dogs and cats may be exposed to harmful bacteria (like Salmonella) due to contamination from feces and urine. This can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, fever, abdominal pain, dehydration, and other serious health issues.
• Humans: Pet owners or handlers may be exposed to Salmonella or other contaminants while handling the products, packaging, or surfaces. Symptoms in humans can include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), fever, and abdominal cramps. Individuals with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable.

Actions:

• Stop Use: Do not feed recalled pet foods and treats to pets.
• Disposal: Do not sell or donate recalled products. Return them to the place of purchase for a refund or dispose of them safely so that children, pets, and wildlife cannot access them. After handling, wash and sanitize any contact surfaces, bowls, containers, and your hands.
