Issue: Contamination has been confirmed with both Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes through routine testing by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.
Health Risks:
Pets:
- Such infections may lead to symptoms like lethargy, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, abdominal discomfort, and—in rare cases—neurological or respiratory issues.
- Pets may also become silent carriers and spread the bacteria through their saliva or feces.
Humans:
- Exposure to these bacteria can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, potentially progressing to serious conditions like bloodstream infections or miscarriage.
- Individuals with weakened immune systems, pregnant women, the elderly, and young children are especially vulnerable.
Action Steps:
- Stop Use: Immediately cease feeding pets any products from Lots 21495 or 21975.
- Disposal: Securely discard the products to ensure they can no longer be accessed by children, pets, or wildlife. Clean and sanitize all feeding bowls, storage containers, and surfaces that may have come into contact with the food.
