Issue: Potential contamination with Salmonella bacteria — a foodborne pathogen that can cause illness in pets and humans.
Affected Lots: Lot Code: 40906513, Best By Date: 09/06/2026, Sold in 4 lb bags only.
Distribution: Products were sold through retail stores in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Texas, Montana, and Nebraska.
Health Risks:
Pets: Dogs that eat Salmonella-contaminated food can develop symptoms like lethargy, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, fever, decreased appetite, and abdominal pain. Infected animals may also carry and spread the bacteria without showing obvious signs.
Humans: People handling contaminated dog biscuits — especially without thorough hand-washing — may experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and fever. Rare but serious complications (e.g., arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis) can also occur in vulnerable individuals.
Actions:
Stop Use: Immediately discontinue feeding the recalled biscuits to pets.
Disposal:
- Do not sell, reuse, or donate the products.
- Return them to the place of purchase for a full refund, or discard them in a secure trash receptacle where pets, children, or wildlife cannot access them.
- Wash and sanitize all pet food bowls, cups, storage bins, and surfaces that came into contact with the food, and wash hands thoroughly after handling.
